Android O Beta Coming Within Weeks

May 9, 2017

Good news if you have been anxiously waiting updates on Android O. It appears that Android O Beta is going to be released by the end of the month. We already see that there is a developer preview version of Android O, so it is only a matter of time before the public version is released. If you are interested in Android O, continue reading to learn more.

Android O Public Beta Due in May

There are a couple rumors on when exactly the public beta of Android O will be released. While we are not into the rumor mill aspect, either situation would have the public beta release by the end of May. Some people speculate it will be when the Pixel 2 is released and others think that it will be during the Developers’ Conference. Both of these things will be happening this month, although the conference will be more towards the end of the month.

Even though we do know that the next version of Android will be Android O, we still do not know what name will be given to this next operating system. A lot of people believe it will be Android Oreo, although that could just be a media rumor. Other people believe it will be Orange because of Google having a California base. No one has said yet either way what the O will stand for, so until there is a release, it looks like there will be more people speculating on the name for the next operating system.

Android O Developer Preview Out Now

As we said a few minutes ago, the Developer Preview of Android O has already been released. This can be accessed if you are a developer and part of that program. The only bad part about downloading this is that it could wipe your entire Android device. Not to mention the fact that if you have a company-owned phone, they might not like you downloading the new Beta since it is not likely authorized by your IT department.

Still, for the few who have the ability to access Android O Developer Preview, it could be a good thing to do. At least it would give you an idea of the upcoming features and options. Even if you choose not to be a part of the new operating system beta, it is a good program to get into if you are a developer because you get a ton of exclusive early access to new apps and features.

Speaking of features, there are quite a few that have been proposed for this operating system. Some features have been leaked although not a lot has been confirmed or verified by those in the know. One thing that Android users are hoping comes with Android O is an improved battery life through limiting the background apps. Picture-in-Picture is also something that people really hope comes to Android O. Audio performance could be included as well since Sony gave Google the LDAC codec. This would definitely help improve audio quality, although it is not confirmed the codec will be used in the upcoming operating system.

When it comes to Android O, we do know that the first devices to get the operating system will be those that can handle Android O right now. This would include Android devices such as the Pixel C, Pixel, Pixel XL, and Nexus 6P, Nexus 5 X, and Nexus Player. Android O will be the eighth operating system for Android, so it is unclear how many of the older devices will be supported or be able to run it once it is released. Hopefully, we will be able to give you more details on that once Android O Beta is released to the public in the coming weeks.
