Asus ZenBook UX303UB Review

The UX305 series was designed to be very slim then from all its siblings. In a slightly thicker body it offers a little more power. With the little Intel’s sixth generation core m and core i processors both the models have just received a new refresh and the UX303 also gets the Nvidia’s current generation graphics.Asus ZenBook UX303UB Review

Getting more choice is always a good thing, so we have spent some time with recently launched ZenBook UX303UB just to see does it matches to its sibling’s i.e. pedigree, and if the power and different balance design makes  huge difference.

Well it is not slim as its sibling ‘MacBook Air killer’, but still this is a very portable laptop. It is available in Icicle Gold and Smoky Brown color. It is just 20mm thick and weighs only 1.45kg. Its lid has Asus’ trademark concentric ring pattern but yes the finish is totally smooth and it does not have any texture.Asus ZenBook UX303UB Design

We are happy with the build quality. You can easily lift the lid with one finger and the base stays put. The hinge feel pretty solid and the screen does not flex. The frame of the screen is the only part of the UX303UB that feels less then the perfectly solid, but when it is pressed hard there comes some minor ripples.Asus ZenBook UX303UB Laptop

  • There are two 3.0 USB ports
  • An exposed SD card on the left
  • Along with full sized HDMI port there is another 3.0 USB port on the right
  • A mini display port
  • Audio socket of 3.5 mm
  • The DC power inlet that is quite impressive for a slim laptop
  • Asus throws in one USB to Ethernet adapter
  • One Mini DP to VGA adapter
  • On the bottom the speakers are overhang
  • The lid reveals a fairly trackpad and spacious keyboardAsus ZenBook UX303UB Cables

The layout of the keyboard is the same as we saw on the UX305FA and when we used we quite liked it. It feels a quite a mushier and on the upper right corner the power button is easier to hit accidently  and on the other hand there is a backlight given this time. You will get a pretty nice cloth sleeve, a microfiber cloth, the aforementioned dongles and a Velcro cable tie in the box of the Asus.Asus ZenBook UX303UB Body

Asus ships the UX303UB with 64 bit edition of the Windows 10 Home, and some pre-installed programs like McAfee LiveSafe, Microsoft Office trial and Dropbox . There is also a Asus’s own Live Updates tools and Webstorage which display alerts from time to time.Asus ZenBook UX303UB Bag

Asus Splendid is a utility that offers a manual slider and three presets to control screen colour temperature and for touchpad control the Smart Gesture replicates the entire Windows control panel. It also helps you to hook up to Android app which will let you use the smartphone as the wireless trackpad.

You will also get:

  • Evernote
  • Twitter
  • Cyberlink PowerDirector
  • Gameloft Games Store
  • Asus’s Giftbox storefront
  • WPS Office
  • Flipboard
  • TripAdvisor
  • PhotoDirector
  • WildTangent Games
  • Photoshop Express
  • Candy Crush Soda Saga

By default, the Window 10 is set up with 150% UI scaling.

Here Asus gives us two points – the UX305 series is a portable and it does a fantastic job for what it is meant for. On the other hand the UX303 tries to give the buyers both power and portability. But it has balanced out at the most reasonable cost possible.Asus ZenBook UX303UB Accesories

So if you are looking to spend Rs. 70,000 on laptop then you will find that both the siblings are excellent options to choose from.
