It has been announced that Destiny 2 will indeed be coming to Steam later this year. This is great news considering the questions surrounding Steam and whether or not it would get this game as Epic Games Store continues to rise.

If you didn’t hear the latest Destiny franchise news, Bungie now controls the entire Destiny franchise. This means that Bungie can do anything it desires with the game, and many changes will be coming in the near future. Read on to learn about the news of Destiny 2 coming to Steam and when this will happen.

Destiny 2 Announced for Steam in September

Going into when the game will be released on Steam, Destiny 2 should arrive on the PC gaming platform in September. That really is not too far away and we are very intrigued at all of the changes coming with Destiny 2. One of the changes involves a content expansion that is on the way named Shadowkeep.

Shadowkeep will also be launching in September alongside the Destiny 2 Steam release. Other cool announcements were made revolving around September too. There will be a brand new free-to-play version of the original Destiny. Beyond that, it was announced that cross-play support is also coming in September. Bungie is definitely looking to expand on the Destiny franchise with these additions, including several new additions to Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 on Steam Means No More Battle.net

When talking about Destiny 2 coming to Steam it’s important to note that this means no more Battle.net. Instead of using Battle.net or Epic Games Store, the game itself will be ran using the Steam platform entirely. Of course, this only really concerns PC players, but it’s a major change from the Blizzard way of life using Battle.net for the game.

Previous to the upcoming Steam release, the only way you could play Destiny 2 on the PC was by using Battle.net. Battle.net is the online portal that Activision used for Blizzard products. Since Bungie and Activision split earlier in 2019, that will no longer be the case. The Season of Opulence released a week ago, and that was the last content coming from both Bungie and Activision as a partnership.

Cross-Platform Saves Coming as Destiny 2 Releases on Steam

One thing we are very happy about is that there will be cross-platform save abilities coming as well. This will happen the same time that the game releases on Steam and the Shadowkeep expansion is released. The specific date right now is September 17, although as you know that is always subject to change. The new cross-platform save ability will allow you to save regardless of which device you are using to play Destiny 2. It includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.

The content expansions from Shadowkeep onward will also be sold differently than they are now. These expansions are going to be sold both a la carte and standalone. For players, this gives you choice in which expansions you choose to purchase. It could save you a lot of money. You no longer will need to have all of the prior expansions in order to purchase and play the new expansions. There are so many changes coming to Destiny 2 in the next several months. We are very happy about these changes. It’s also good news that Destiny 2 will be coming to Steam.
