If you have an iOS device, you might be interested in learning about the new Firefox iOS update. In this new update, we see there are quite a few new features. There are also some more features that will be coming to the Firefox iOS app later this year. We have all of that news plus even a little bit of news on Firefox Focus on Android. Read on to learn about all of the latest Firefox iOS update news, including the new features.

Firefox iOS Update Adds Night Mode

Firefox has officially updated on iOS devices, bringing the mobile version to version 8.0. The biggest news to come out of the Firefox iOS update is that Firefox has officially put Night Mode into the iOS app. Night Mode does exactly what you think it does, which is give you a dimmer screen brightness for night time.

This will help your eyes because you will not be looking at the Firefox iOS app in the same blue-tinted light during the evening and night time hours. The new dimmer Firefox will allow you to see everything clearly, but the light will not be as harsh on your eyes. A lot of companies and apps are now utilizing the Night Mode ability in an effort to help people keep their vision and also to ensure that people are not messing up their sleep cycles by looking at their devices at night.

Beyond Night Mode, Firefox also announced that there is a QR Code Reader in the Firefox iOS update. This means you will no longer need to download any third-party apps in order to have access to the QR Code Reader. It is now built into the app itself, which is definitely going to come in handy for people who hate downloading third-party apps and it will increase productivity if you are using the QR Code Reader. Mozilla announced a lot of other information as well about upcoming improvements coming this fall, and we will get to that information in a little bit.

More Features in Firefox iOS App Update

Even more new features were introduced in the Firefox iOS update this week. Beyond Night Mode and the QR Code Reader integration, we also have some other improvements to talk about. Mozilla has included yMail in this list of supported email services being offered, which is pretty cool. The Tab has been improved as well to enhance the overall mobile experience you will have while on your iOS device. The Password Manager on the Firefox iOS app was also upgraded, and it now features an improved and enhanced detection of the login pages.

When it comes to syncing passwords and using the Firefox Login option to do this, the login detection feature has always been a bit of a problem. There were times where you would be at the login page, but Firefox would not popup with the information you needed which was saved in the Firefox iOS app. If you are someone who has a ton of passwords on your mobile device, you will now enjoy better login page detection, which cuts down on you having to try to remember the login information that was not automatically popping up as it should have been.

Even more changes that have come to the new and improved Firefox iOS app include a new Feature Recommendations Tab. This tab will give you more time-savers and hints that you can use to help you have a better experience overall browsing the internet. You will only notice the Feature Recommendations if you are in Germany or America.

This is because America and Germany are the only two countries where this is offered at right now. Everything else we have talked about in the Firefox iOS app update should be available right now globally, it is just the Feature Recommendations Tab that is only for America and Germany for the time being.

There have also been some bug fixes in this update and overall general improvements. One of these includes the ability to use an external keyboard to now control the address bar. Another improvement is that video playing websites like YouTube were freezing up on the video but still playing the audio. This little bug has been fixed and overall the video playing abilities have been tweaked.

Firefox iOS Looking to Make More Changes

When it comes to the Firefox iOS app, while Mozilla does not share much in terms of actual downloads, the company did share a little bit of news. When it comes to Firefox on iOS, the company said that over half a billion people worldwide are using the browser on iOS. The Firefox iOS app has only been out since November 2015, so in less than two years that is a huge number.

These are just some of the changes and new features coming to the Firefox iOS app. There will be more changes and features coming later in 2017 according to Mozilla. There is Project Quantum coming out from Mozilla, which is the new next-generation web engine that the company is in the process of developing.

This will bring a lot of new features and improvements overall to the Firefox browsing experience, although most of these details have been fairly private for now. We can expect the new and improved web engine to be out sometime before the end of the year, although no real date has been given.

The last thing we will talk about too is that on Firefox Focus, which is the more privacy-intensive browser, there are some updates on Android. The Android version of Firefox Focus, which is still in version 1, will now allow you to download files. Beyond that, you can open up Firefox Focus now from the Notifications. You will also have full-screen video support now on Firefox Focus for Android. If any of this new Firefox news sounds good to you, you can download the Firefox iOS from Apple’s App Store for free. You also can download Firefox on Android or download the new privacy-intensive Firefox Focus on Android today for free.
