Good news if you have Hulu, because the app just updated on iOS to include personalized profiles. This new feature is going to make Hulu a lot like Netflix on iOS, and it has been something Hulu had been waving out there as a new feature since December 2016.
Hulu iOS App Gets Personalized Profile Update
It was only a month ago that Hulu announced the personalized profile feature for people who share Hulu with just one account. This feature has now become a reality as the new iOS update for Hulu, version 4.10, includes this personalized profile feature.
Hulu is one of the most popular streaming services on iOS, but lacked the ability to create unique user profiles for people running under the same Hulu account. This profile feature was already out there on other streaming services like Netflix, so Hulu was running a little behind in the personalized profile department. Now, Hulu lets you create your own watchlist with your own viewing history, and even your own personal recommendations.
If you have four people on your Hulu account, now you can create four unique user profiles for each person. This allows you to get personalized recommendations based off what you already have watched, and you do not need to worry about other people messing with your customized profile or recommendations anymore.
You will find that the Hulu website is the first to get the new update with the profiles, and then the new iOS update allows you to create these profiles as well. Hulu said that no longer will there be conflict when it comes to trying to find content that is not what someone else in the family wants to watch. The really good news is that you can make a children’s account, which will then prohibit the more mature adult content from showing up on their profile or in their recommendations. This is great news because if you allowed your child on your Hulu account before, there was no way to keep the adult content from appearing in the recommended section or keep these adult shows from showing up in a search. With the profile personalization and the children’s account features, you will be able to keep your children safe while viewing shows on Hulu. You can do this whether you are on the website or on the iOS app for Hulu.
All you have to do is simply add people by choosing the “Add Profile” option and then if it is a child, you can restrict the content on the children’s account option. You type in the name of the person for that profile, and then they will get recommendations and their own customized history and watchlist. The only downside to all of this is that you only can stream content through one profile at a time, so it is not quite up to par with Netflix as of yet.
This one-stream only feature will be in place regardless of how many user profiles you set up for your family. Hulu says that this is because of licensing agreements the company has, but you have to wonder because Netflix does it and it seems to work. You can check out the website to see how you can create the new user profiles if you have trouble as the iOS help section has not been updated with this new feature as of yet.
