If you have a Steam account, you probably have heard of the game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Well, this super popular game has broken quite a few records since it was released four months ago. Now, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds just smashed another record of being the third-most played Steam game out there. We have all of the latest news and information about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and what new records the game has broken on Steam.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Sells Over 6 Million Copies
If you have not tried out PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Steam, you might be one of the few people still left to give this game a try. We say that because PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds just broke over $150 million in four months. That is super impressive for a game to do that well on Steam in such a small amount of time. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold 6 million copies in those four months, making it one of the most successful games on Steam ever.
Even beyond that, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is the third-most played game right now on Steam. There are about 500,000 concurrent players which is an insanely huge amount of players for a game like this. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is not really even “finished” yet, meaning it is only on Steam right now as an Early Access title.
While “Early Access” games on Steam give you the ability to purchase and download the game, it is still considered an unfinished product at that point in time. Steam is the largest digital game store in the world, so it does help that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has chosen such a large platform to start out.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Breaks Steam Records
It is pretty amazing to think that in four months over 6 million copies of Battlegrounds have been sold. This game is the real deal, and once it becomes officially available across multiple platforms it will do even better. Did you know about 200 million people use Steam regularly?
When you think of the fact that 200 million people have been using Steam regularly, and then you hear that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds sold 6 million copies, that is pretty amazing. This is not a small feat, and being the third-most played Steam game right now is also a pretty amazing record for the game.
We probably will never see Battlegrounds become number one or two on Steam, at least not for a very long time. Counter-Strike Global Offensive and DOTA 2 are both in the top two spots, and have been in the top spots for a very long time. Both of those games have been either operated or created by Valve, which is the company behind Steam.
The fact that Battlegrounds is a non-Valve game and has managed to get to the third spot is nothing short of incredible. The fact that DOTA 2 is completely free to download and play also makes it nearly impossible to ever knock off from the top spot. Since the top two games are part of Valve, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds really does become the number one game in a sense if you are not counting Valve-related games.
Speaking of non-Valve games, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds now is the game that holds the record for the highest player count for a non-Valve game. So an unfinished game that has been our four months has managed to get the record for highest player count for a non-Valve game on Steam. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is really that incredible, and the game should be hitting Xbox One by the ending of this year. Once that happens, even more records will be shattered as more people get interested in the game and decide to check out Steam.
