Imagine just browsing through your gallery on your Android device. You want to sort your pictures, but you accidentally delete them. This is a more common issue than thought. There are a lot of people that accidentally delete their photos (and videos) on their Android devices. Fortunately, in some instances, it is possible to recover deleted photos (and videos) on most Android devices. In this article, you will learn about several methods that you can use to dig through your Android device, in the hopes of recovering any photos and videos you deleted.

Recover deleted photos

In order to be able to recover any deleted photos or videos, it is quite important to know where those photos and videos were stored. On many Android devices, you can place an external SD card into the device itself. If you accidentally deleted photos and videos on your external SD card, you have a high chance of recovering those files by using a program called Recuva. If those photos and videos were stored in the internal storage of your device, you are going to have to use one of the many recovery apps. You can easily find those apps on Google Play Store. In this article, we will take a look at a recovery app called DiskDigger.

Recover photos with Recuva

For starters, you will first have to download Recuva. Recuva is a program that is supposed to run on your computer. It is free to use, so don’t worry about any hidden costs. Once you’ve downloaded and installed Recuva, simply click on the icon to start the program. After that, it is important that you connect your Android device to your computer by USB cable. You also need to make sure that you can access your Android device’s internal storage. If you see a notification on your Android device after connecting it to your computer, simply choose the Media Device (MTP) option. This will ensure that your computer can access your device.

After you have connected your Android device to your computer, go back to the Recuva Wizard and click on “Next”. On the next screen, you can select what type of files you want to recover from your device. You can either choose a specific type of files, such as pictures, or you can allow the program to search all files. In this case, we will select “Pictures” and click on “Next” again. The next screen will ask you for the file location. You will have to click on the “On my media card or iPod” option and click on “next” again.

Now, you will have to allow Recuva to search through your external SD card. This may take several minutes, depending on the amount of storage space on your external SD card. If the program is able to find any recoverable photos, you can simply select them and click on the “Recover” button. You have now successfully recovered deleted photos on your device.

Recover photos with DiskDigger

In most cases, when a file gets deleted on an Android device, the operating system only edits the pathway to the file itself. That means that the file is actually not permanently deleted. In such cases, it is possible to recover those files, which means that you can recover accidentally deleted photos and videos quite easily. The only requirement is that the old location of the deleted files are not yet overwritten by other files.

To start using DiskDigger, you will first have to launch Google Play Store and find the app. It only takes a few moments to download and install the app. Once the app is installed, launch it. On the first screen of DiskDigger, you will have to select the partition that you want the app to search through. DiskDigger will even let you know which partition is probably your device’s internal memory. You will have to select that partition. After that, you can select a number of file types, just like Recuva. Simply select the file types that you wish to search and potentially recover. Once you are ready, tap on “Ok” to start the DiskDigger search.

Once the search is completed, DiskDigger will show you an overview of the files that are recoverable. Highlight those files and tap on the “floppy disk” icon to recover them. You will now have to select the location where you want to save those recovered files. Tap on “Ok” again to finish the recovery. You have now recovered deleted photos on your device.

Root Access on Android

One thing to note is that most recovery apps on Google Play Store require root access. Some apps, such as DiskDigger, will still be capable of finding deleted files. However, you may not get as many results as when your Android device is actually rooted. While rooting is relatively safe to do nowadays, it still requires some technological know-how. If you absolutely need to recover deleted photos on your Android device, you should first root it. You will find out that you get much better results with a rooted device, using recovery apps.
