Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge rolls out with Android Marshmallow update: On Monday 15th February 2016, Samsung has officially announced that Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will get updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The update of the other devices will follow said the company. The marshmallow update was announced last year back in September, it is a major update to Google’s mobile operating system. For the other eligible models the company said in a blog post that it will make separate announcements about the details of OS schedule. The big updates of the Android Marshmallow includes more granular access to the permissions each app requires, a battery-saver mode and much-enhanced security. For the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone, the update brings new edge features and enhanced edge screen. To enable more content for display, the pixel density has increased from 260 pixels to 550 pixels.
It further enables the users to customise up to nine panels which includes Apps edge panels and People edge. However now the contact names in the People edge panel will appear below the user photographs not like before where only a small photo icon was shown. Among other things that has changed are a shortcut has been created to the settings menu. On the other hand, the update in the app edge panel will enable the users to add instead of five apps, a total of ten apps. Instead of apps, they can just add the entire folders to get maximum smartphone organisations.
The update was first introduced last year with the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. New features that is notable are to carefully manage privacy permissions and Google Now on Tap. A task edge panel is also introduced through the update which provides shortcut to often used app task or features such as composing a text message, creating an event in S Planner and setting an alarm. The update further introduced A Quick tools panel that includes customisable flashlight, ruler and compass. After the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update users can also customise the edge handle.
This update is announced by Samsung just few days before the latest high end smartphone of Samsung, the galaxy S7 is expected to launch.
