Good news if you are a Steam gamer, because the new Steam Link app was just released for Samsung Smart TVs. This is great news because it allows a lot of people to now access Steam on their Samsung Smart TVs. We have all of the latest news about the Steam Link app and how it will help you play games in a much quicker and easier fashion.

Steam Link App Now Available For Download

Previously, the Steam Link app was in beta, which meant there were still some performance issues and bugs that needed to be worked out. It appears that those issues have been fixed though as the Steam Link app is now available officially through the Smart Hub App Store.

If you have a Samsung Smart TV from the 2016 through 2017 lineup, you will now be able to download the Steam Link app to play Steam games. You need to ensure that the firmware on your television is up to date though before you can download and install the Steam Link App.

If you go to the Smart Hub App Store, you should see the Steam Link app available right now. The good thing here is that after you have installed the app, you will not need to install the Link device itself in order to play the games on Steam. There is a Link device you can buy, which is $50, but installing the app from the Samsung Smart TV app store will allow you to play the Steam games without buying the Link device itself.

More Steam Link Details

Beyond the launch of the Steam Link app on the Smart Hub App Store, there is also more good news coming from Steam. Steam just announced that the Link will be compatible with both the wired Xbox One controllers and the Xbox 360 controllers. Beyond Xbox, Steam Link is also compatible with Logitech F510 and the F710 controllers.

The beta period had the testers using all of these controllers to ensure that they worked properly, and it appears that the compatibility has indeed happened for all of the above controllers. The development team is trying to figure out one lingering issue though, which is how the Xbox controllers rumble causes lag. The team is looking at how to fix this lag issue and the fix will likely be coming in an update in the future. There will also be new features coming in the upcoming updates.

Steam Link App Gives Steam Players More Options

For now though, you can go ahead and enjoy Steam and the Steam games on what you probably consider the biggest television screen in your house. As long as you have one of the 2016 or 2017 models of the Samsung Smart TV, you will be able to enjoy all of the new capabilities of this app without purchasing the Steam Link device. If you have an older Samsung Smart TV though, you probably will need to purchase the actual Steam Link device, although we are not really sure about the older versions.

The only years that were mentioned right now as being compatible include the 2016 and 2017 models, but more models might be compatible in the future updates. We will just have to wait and see on that, and we will let you know when more features come to the Link system. This includes support for more smart televisions, whether they are Samsung or other brands so stay tuned for more updates on the Link system.
