This is part two of the Steam Machines Preview.
Digital Storm Eclipse Steam Machine
Because of the way that the Digital Storm Eclipse is designed, you are able to either place it horizontally or vertically, just like the PlayStation and XBOX consoles. There is a very good reason why the manufacturers of the Digital Storm Eclipse have done this. They wanted to make it easier for people to swap out the graphics card, if they wish to replace it or upgrade it.
Another nice feature about the Digital Storm Eclipse is that you can upgrade other key components as well, such as the RAM memory sticks and storage. The manufacturers of the Digital Storm Eclipse have decided to implement a 1TB hard disk as storage, instead of a SSD. Luckily, you can easily open up the machine and replace any of the parts that you wish.
The Digital Storm Eclipse comes with an Intel Pentium G3220 CPU and a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960 graphics card with 2GB of video memory. It has 8GB of DDR3 RAM at a speed of 1600MHz. As mentioned above, the machine comes with a 1TB 7200RPM mechanical hard disk, which you can replace with an SSD, if you wish to get more performance out of the Digital Storm Eclipse. The price for this Steam Machine is $699,99.
Falcon Northwest Tiki Steam Machine
The Falcon Northwest Tiki Steam Machine is one of the smallest, and according to the manufacturers, the most powerful Steam Machine available. The case itself is thirteen inches tall and four inches wide, making the Falcon Northwest Tiki a micro-tower Steam Machine. Because of pretty much all of the hardware in it and the size of it, the Falcon Northwest Tiki is most likely going to be the most expensive Steam Machine available.
According to several sources on the internet, the most powerful and expensive Falcon Northwest Tiki will be running at a whopping $5000. The GPUs used in the Falcon Northwest Tiki range from Geforce 9 series to the Titan-Z class. The machine also has a liquid-cooled Intel i7 processor, and ass if that is not enough, you can also include up to eight terabytes of solid-state memory.
The Falcon Northwest Tiki comes in several different colors and themes. The GPU in this machine is an Intel Core up to i7-4790K. The most basic model of the Falcon Northwest Tiki has a NVIDIA Gefore GTX 900 series graphics card, but can be upgraded to a Titan and Titan-Z class. The memory in this machine can be up to 16GB of DDR3 at a speed of 1866 MHz. The storage can be up to 8TB of SSD, or a combination of SSDs and a standard HDD.
A very nice feature of the Falcon Northwest Tiki Steam Machine is that it has completely customizable configurations. It also has a liquid-cooled CPU and overclocking has been made available on this machine. The price starts at $2000 and can go up till $5000.
Gigabyte BRIX Pro
Competing against the Falcon Northwest Tiki’s size is the Gigabyte BRIX Pro. This Steam Machine developed by Gigabyte is very small, measuring at 114mm wide and deep and 62mm tall. Even though some people might find the size of Gigabyte BRIX Pro a little unpleasant, the manufacturers of this nifty little machine did pack a punch into it.
The manufacturers of the Gigabyte BRIX Pro Steam Machine were able to shrink its size so drastically by integrating its GPU onto its Intel i7 processor chip. Even though the machine has some great specifications, the fact that the GPU is integrated onto the processor chips means that you will probably not be able to play the latest PC games on ULTRA settings.
You also will need to implement laptop memory and a 2.5 inch hard disk into the machine, before you are able to boot it up and run it. The Gigabyte BRIX Pro comes with the Intel Core i7-4770R GPU and the Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 GPU. It has two SO-DIMM DDR3L slots at the speed of 1600 MHz and supports a 2.5 inch SSD/HDD. The price for the Gigabyte BRIX Pro is $599,99.
