We have great news about privacy on Android as Tor just released a mobile version of the Tor Browser for Android. Right now, you can download the Tor Browser for your Android device through Google Play Store. This is the first ever mobile browser release for the Tor Browser, and it is currently in Alpha testing on Android. We have all of the latest news about the Tor Project releasing the alpha version of the Tor Browser for Android.

Tor Browser for Android Finally Available as Alpha Test

It is about time that the Tor Project releases a mobile browser, as it has been a popular PC browser for many years now. The Tor Project is behind both the Tor Browser and the Tor network, and now the company has released an Android app. You can get the new Tor Browser for Android through Google Play Store right now. It is important to note that this is an alpha release, which means it is still in testing mode. You likely will encounter some bugs and minor issues since this is an alpha release and not a stable release.

If you are excited to try out Tor on your Android device, you might want to go ahead and try out the alpha release. In order to use the Tor Browser on your Android device, you will also need to download and install Orbot. Orbot is a proxy app for mobile and it will allow you to connect to the Tor network using the Android browser.

Tor Project said that after this initial release, you will not need to install the Orbot proxy app onto your Android device. This new Tor Browser for Android will replace the Android browser known as Orfox. That browser had support for both the Onion protocol and navigation through the Tor network. Since the Tor Browser is now available on Android, the company has decided to retire Orfox.

Tor Browser For Android Comes with Many Features

There are a lot of features that you will find in the new Tor Browser for Android. Even though this is the alpha release, you will get a ton of features that you might have used on the PC version. You will get the Tracker Blocker, which stops third-party trackers from following you. Once you are done browsing, the cookies will automatically be deleted. Fingerprint Protection is also included in the Android version.

The Fingerprinting Protection basically stops you from being fingerprinted using the device information and browser. The Tor Android browser also has the ability to get you to any website you want, even if those websites have been blocked by your local ISP. Multi-Layered Encryption is also included in the browser, and it uses Onion protocol to encrypt all of the traffic. These are just some of the features you will get if you download the Tor Browser for Android.

Are You Excited About the Tor Browser Coming to Android?

You can try out the Tor Browser for Android right now by downloading the app from Google Play Store. It is free to download and the only thing you need to remember is that it is still in alpha testing. That is like the first group of testing, and then we likely will see beta testing.

Since the app is still in testing, you could encounter issues that could slow down the app or possibly cause the app to crash. If you would like to wait for the beta test or stable release down the road, you can do that as well. We want to know what you think about this browser coming to Android.

Are you happy that there is finally a mobile version of the Tor Browser?
