If you have an iOS device and love using Wikipedia, you will really like the news that the Wikipedia iOS app was just updated. The Wikipedia iOS app has had a few updated as of the past several months, but this new update brings a much-requested feature. Read on to learn more about what you will find with the new Wikipedia iOS app update and how you can get the update right now.
Wikipedia iOS App Update Includes Dark Mode
The newest feature that has come to the Wikipedia iOS app is Dark Mode. This was a feature that has been requested now for a long time. It is nice to see that the Wikipedia iOS app has finally decided to add the Dark mode feature. If you are not sure on what Dark Mode is, it is basically where you can adjust the color settings for when you are reading in lower-light environments.
If you are reading at night or in the dark, you do not want the bright blue light because it damages your eyes and also hinders your ability to fall asleep. Dark Mode is becoming more common place for apps now, since Dark Mode can reduce the vision issues and eye problems resulting from looking at your screen at night. If you are looking through the various Wikipedia entries, you will notice that there is also an image dimming feature in Dark Mode. This means that the pictures will not be nearly as bright either, so you can both dim the text and the images.
Wikipedia iOS App Gets New Features in Update
The Dark Mode feature is not the only new feature in the Wikipedia iOS app update. There are also now options to change the size of the text through the appearance controls. You will also be able to choose between white themes, dark themes, or sepia themes.
We also see that there is an iMessage sticker pack available. You will notice an “On This Day” card in the Explore Feed, which will show you various historical events that happened on that day. There is also a timeline that lets you see multiple events if they all happened on that day.
When it comes to the Dark Mode feature, we still do not have any operating system that incorporates this feature. The apps have been including Dark Mode on their own for a while now, but it would be nice if we saw an iOS or Android system update that just went ahead and included Dark Mode for all to enjoy regardless of app or device. The only good thing is that iOS 11 is going to have what is called a Smart Invert feature.
This will be in the accessibility menu, and it will be similar to the color-scheme that we see in Dark Mode. It still will not be completely like Dark Mode though, and it does not even extend to all of the various elements that will be in iOS 11. It is only for selected items and most images, media and some apps will not be included in this feature. For now, it looks like we will have to rely on the app developers to include the actual Dark Mode feature in apps in order to have the full functionality of this feature.
The new version of the Wikipedia iOS app is version 5.6 and this version is out now in Apple’s App Store. If you have the Wikipedia iOS app already, then you probably will see the update hitting your device within the next 24 hours or so. If you do not want to wait for the automatic update to hit your iOS device, head to Apple’s App Store and manually download the update. The Wikipedia iOS app is completely free to download and the new features will help make your browsing even quicker and more night-friendly.
